Professional Experience

A Patent Attorney with over twenty years of practice,  Charles Friedman has advised clients on issues of patentability, infringement, freedom to operate,
and validity, and has prepared numerous opinion letters in these areas.

He has handled various phases of patent prosecution, with particular emphasis on patent appeals. He has written numerous briefs to the Board of Patent Appeals,
including a brief challenging a Patent Examiner’s interpretation of “abstract” inventions under Bilski v. Kappos, which resulted in the Examiner being reversed. Over the years, he has drafted patent applications, conducted patent and trademark searches, and prosecuted trademark applications.

Prior to joining the practice, Charles was a Patent Examiner at the US Patent and
Trademark Office in the arts of coating and papermaking for 2 and one-half
years. He spent the first 5 years of his career as a contract officer’s technical
representative and quality engineer with the Army Munitions and Chemical
Command.
