Jose A. Bermudez is a member of the firm’s Government Law & Lobbying team. He is a Senior Government Relations Consultant in our Coral Gables office

He has represented three Republican Governors during his political career. His first stint was with Governor Jeb Bush where he served under the Governor’s Special Assistant in Miami Dade County. He later was tapped for that same role as Special Assistant with Governor Charlie Crist then a Republican and most recently under Governor Rick Scott where Jose had the distinction of being one of the first employees of the Scott administration. Jose served as liaison of the Governor’s office to state agencies, and the Governor in all local governments and intergovernmental agencies.

Jose was fortunate to have served the Governor locally during a period of major infrastructure support for the state. He worked on behalf of the Governor on the Miami Tunnel a $2 billion project and also on the Miami Signature Span a $640 million state F-DOT project.

Prior to joining the office of the Governor, Jose served as Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Miami Beach, where he oversaw one of the most ambitious capital improvement programs in the City’s history. This program of “Planned Progress” rebuilt streets, upgraded infrastructure such as drainage systems and water lines, renovated and rebuilt many City assets and built new facilities for parks and entertainment venues. Jose has also had the pleasure to serve in the White House Advance office under President George W. Bush and oversaw several international missions. 

Jose presently represents alongside with his colleagues at Becker & Poliakoff: the City of Miami, City of Homestead, Village of Virginia Gardens, City of Miami Springs, MDX (Miami Expressway Authority and also Miami Dade County. He has successfully advocated for funding for these clients at the state.

He also represents clients at the local level on Legislation, Annexation Issues and funding request at the County and local municipal level. 

Mr. Bermudez has been involved in government in one way or another over a period of three decades. His love for politics began with campaigning in local elections, state elections and later federal politics. Though, he is of Trinidadian and Venezuelan decent he truly embraces his love of the Miami’s Hispanic Cuban community.
