JanPaul Guzman is a registered patent attorney in the Firm’s Intellectual Property & Emerging Technologies Practice Group. Mr. Guzman’s practice focuses on drafting patent applications involving mechanical and electrical apparatuses, such as electrical power generating systems, apparatuses for reducing air pollution, noise detection systems, refrigeration systems, and “green” technologies. He also works with clients to assist them in developing business strategies in order to commercialize their inventions.
Prior to joining Becker & Poliakoff, Mr. Guzman’s practice focused on representing clients in all aspects of patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation from pre-litigation through discovery, trial, and appeals to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The litigation involved a variety of issues including patent and trademark infringement, unfair competition, the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, and dilution. He also represented clients in the areas of patent and trademark prosecution, as well as domain name disputes. Mr. Guzman has also served as in-house counsel for a durable medical equipment company, where he was responsible for negotiating and drafting various agreements, including manufacturing and distribution agreements with foreign companies, trademark licensing agreements, vendor agreements, employments agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
